Dye with Weeds!

Explore plants considered weeds by some, and work with them as collaborators in our quest or color!

This beginner level adult class will introduce the dye materials and techniques to make a use of the abundant "weeds" in our environment. We will look into the concept of weeds as a category of plants, and pursue that question as we further our inquiry into working with plants for colorants. We will prepare both cotton and a protein based fiber for dyeing; and experiment with binding fabrics before immersing them in dyes. Plants we will use: Tree of Heaven and possibly others.

We will provide all of the dye materials and cotton napkin blanks as well as wool samples for each person. You will receive an email after you register that will include more details on what you can expect, and what items you might bring with you to try in our vats.

Each dyer will receive a reference sheet to take home, so this journey can be continued!

Pricing: Sliding Scale, $25-$65. Please fill out this form to sign up!
